Surprise visit during the Corporate Volunteering Day

On September 7th 2011,Poland celebrated the Day of Corporate Volunteering in the tent of the European Year of Volunteering located in the main square in Warsaw, next to the Palace of Culture and Science. The participants were honored to receive the visit of Androulla Vassiliou, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Sport, Media and Youth who was in Warsaw for EU Youth Conference (7 to 11 of October 2011). The commissioner stood for a moment to greet and congratulate the organizers of the day, the Volunteer Center, and visit the stands of the Marketplace and learn about the different

Volunteering in companies is generally associated with the idea of corporate ​​social responsibility. The several debates, conferences and activities organized in the EYV2011 tent proved to all everything that volunteering could provide to employees of a company. It became clear the values ​​of volunteerism, good practices and solutions developed by Polish and international companies. In conferences held throughout the day, you could learn a lot about corporate volunteering, such as how to organize volunteer work in a company or how to convince the director of organizing corporate volunteering. In each workshop, experts were invited to answer questions on best practices and benefits of corporate volunteering.

 The workshop organized in the Market Place about online security (with social networks like Facebook) was very excited to attract many attendees, mostly high school students.

 There was also involvement of volunteers of the Foundation Ronald McDonald who performed ultrasound prevention for Warsaw kids, the employees of energy company Enea who showed how to administer first aid, Warta employees who showed their blankets.

In the evening, the Debate Room became an awards ceremony room to congratulate works of journalists involved in volunteering. The contest „Tak! Pomagam” (yes, I can help) collected more than 130 works, divided into three categories: newspapers and Internet, radio and television. The winners of each category were awarded with a statuette designed by Domingo Kozanowskiego, a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
